EMN celebrates Rev. Walker Nery, recent grad

of Concordia’s Hispanic Studies program!

Last month, Expansion Mission Network (EMN) joyfully celebrated the ordination and installation of Rev. Walker Nery at Bethel Lutheran Church in Garland, TX. Surrounded by his family, pastors, mentors, and congregation members, the solemn occasion marked the culmination of four years of study and dedication at Concordia Seminary’s Center for Hispanic Studies. 

Walker Nery joined the EMN family in 2020, with a passion for reaching Hispanic families and sharing the gospel. In 2021, while still serving as a vicar, he took on the exciting challenge of starting a Spanish-speaking mission at Dallas Bethel Lutheran Church, which has since become a strong and supportive part of his ministry.

The graduation and ordination of Rev. Walker Nery mark a significant milestone not only as a public affirmation of his pastoral calling, but also as a testament to his faithful walk with our Lord Jesus, the Church and the LCMS community. His comprehensive theological education ensures that his ministry is rooted in biblical truth and confessional integrity foundational pillars for upholding the legacy of the Reformation and proclaiming the gospel of Christ with clarity and conviction.

EMN’s Executive Director, Rev. Jaime Gonzalez, stresses that solid theological formation is vital for church planters: "We must share our doctrine with unwavering clarity and conviction to faithfully advance the gospel. This is why theological education is essential."

The ordination and installation ceremony was well attended by leadership from the Texas District, President Rev. Dr. Jon Braunersreuther presided over the service, accompanied by Rev. Ben Gonzales (Area B Mission Strategist); Rev. Lincon Guerra, (Area A Mission Facilitator); and Rev. Mark Huston (Circuit Visitor) key leaders instrumental in advancing mission efforts throughout the district. Additionally, pastors from Area B were present to join in the celebration.
